Karakorum |
After
breakfast, Horseback towards Karakhorum-the
Genghis (Chinggis) Khan's 13th century capital
and heart of the mighty Mongolian Empire. It was the capital of
the Mongol Empire until Kublai Khan moved it to Beijing. Visitors,
such as Marco Polo, described its ornate building, including a
2500 sq. meters Palace of Worldly Peace. After the collapse of
the Mongol Empire it was abandoned and vandalized by Manchurian
invading hordes. Most of the remains were used to re-build the
first Buddhist Monastery in Mongolia-Erdene Zuu, built-in 1586.
400 meter long with 108 Stupas still surrounds Erdene Zuu Monastery
which was built in 1586. It was restored in 1760. In 1792 the
Monastery still had 62 temples and 10,000 lamas. But in 1930 it
became a victim of the Stalin's purges. All but three of the Temples
were destroyed and most of the monks were either killed or sent
to Siberia. Today the restoration of the Monastery is the government's
top priority. Erdene Zuu retains much of its ancient glory and
is well worth visiting. Arrive and setting up the camp in tent,
close to Karakorum. Camping in tents. |

TESTIMONIALS
Dear Samar Magic
Tours,
I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed my Mongolian vacation.
The location of the "Chinggis" tourist camp is extremely beautiful.
You should put pictures of the surrounding area on your
website. I think if foreigners saw how beautiful it was they would
like to come and spend a longer time, like I did, not just pass
through. Nara was a wonderful translator and a big help all around.
She helped me have the best vacation possible. The food was excellent.
The horses were better than American horses. I was never bored.
If you want to use anything I wrote in advertisement , you have
my permission.
Sincerely, Mrs. Margaret Keene (USA).
"CHINGGIS"
TOURIST CAMP: Located in the
Tuul Valley, this majestic setting with its green hills and flocks
of sheep was reminiscent of Ireland. Most people think of Mongolia
as desert, and indeed, the southern part is. Here, though, about
55 km eastern of Ulaan Baatar it was all hills, rivers, and valleys
with mountains in the background.
Yours truly, Maxwell C. Berins (USA)/ |
