Kunming-Chengdu Overland
Tour Code: SMT-KC14D Gateway: Kunming
Trekking Grades : Moderate *Min. group of 4 persons or more.

This 14-day trip takes you to Shangri-la: northwest of Yenning and Kham, a remote area in Sichuan province on the southeast part of the Tibet-Qinghai Plateau. It offers participants an opportunity to visit mysterious region and it’s people, and also to trek in the stunning mountain scenery. Love at Shangri-La: Taking love and death as everlasting themes, man appear perplexed and panicky when confronted with death, and ambivalent and helpless with love. Thus, they have been eternal themes for philosophers and writers over the past generations who have tried to discuss love and death from philosophical and literary perspectives in their works such as Republic by a Greek philosopher Plato and Lost Horizon by a British writer James Hilton, the latter portraying an ideal Buddhist kingdom Shangri-La. Shangri-La is located in the Khamba regions of the eastern marches of Tibet at the juncture of Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet.

The natural environment of Shangri-La is so inviting that it reaches the greatest realm of man’s appreciation of the beautiful: along a meadow embraced by snow-capped mountains with a stream murmuring through are herds of cattle and sheep leisurely grazing the tender grass under white clouds floating through the blue sky. The meadow is decorated with clusters of wild flowers scattering here and there. In the near distance, several women in Tibetan long gowns milk in front of black tents from which cooking smoke curls up; far away, a lamasery with reddish-brown walls and golden tile roofs is enwrapped in the afterglow of the setting sun, serenely and tranquilly, sitting half way up to a mountain. The Shangri-La people feel calm and happy. In addition, the charming Shangri-La women in Tibetan costumes decorated with various adornments and the handsome Khamba men with braided hair around the head are a splendid and movable attraction of the vast land of Shangri-La. On the spacious stage bestowed by the land, Shangri-La people are all dancers by nature.
