We will begin the route at the new “Genghis” Khan Airport in Ulaanbaatar (inaugurated on July 3rd, 2021, located 52 km / 32.3 miles, about +2-3 hours of travel depending on traffic), capital of Mongolia, with a reception by the Samar Magic Tours team. This is one of the most interesting routes in Mongolia.
Next, depart northeast to visit the Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue. At the base of the statue, visitors can see a replica of the Great Khan’s legendary golden whip. Tourists can take an elevator inside the statue. The exit is at the height of Genghis Khan’s groin, from where you can walk to the horse’s head to enjoy a wide panorama of the steppe. We will also visit a small Bronze Age Museum located in the basement of the Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue.
Departure northeast to Gorkhi/Terelj National Park, located at 1600 m above sea level, with tall Mesozoic granite rocks, mountains, steppes, alpine forests, and large Mesozoic rock formations with curious shapes such as Turtle Rock. It lies at the foot of the Khenti Mountains, the region where Genghis Khan was born. It was declared a National Park in 1993 and covers an area of 300,000 hectares.
Next, depart westward to attend an Authentic Mongolian Nomadic Show, which demonstrates the traditional lifestyle of Mongolia’s nomads, the herding and use of five types of livestock while moving from place to place using ox carts, yaks, camels, and horses. A large part of the Mongolian population remains nomadic, moving from one place to another on horseback, by camel, or on yak, with their Gers and herds, and the occasional encounter with one of these families and their way of life is an unforgettable experience.
