Route and itinerary

We will begin our journey at the new “Genghis Khan” Airport in Ulaanbaatar (opened July 3, 2021, located 52 km/32.3 miles away, a 2-3 hours’ drive depending on traffic), the capital of Mongolia, where you will be met by the Samar Magic Tours team. A honeymoon in Mongolia offers an unparalleled and romantic adventure, perfect for couples seeking unexplored nature, nomadic culture, and nights under the stars. The best months to visit are from June to mid- September, exploring the famous Gobi Desert, the Great Equestrian Statue of Genghis Khan, and Gorkhi-Terelj National Park in Luxury Resort.

Mongolia is one of the most unique honeymoon destinations, perfect for couples craving freedom, adventure, and breathtaking landscapes. Unforgettable nights under the bright stars in the Gobi Desert, ever-changing landscapes, and bonding activities for adventurous couples await.

Mongolia is known as the land of the blue sky, standing out for its landscapes, its nomadic culture, and its extreme climate. Its capital is Ulaan Bator, where the main tourist services, banks, and shops are concentrated.

Currency

The official currency in Mongolia is the Tugrik or Tugrug (T), divided into banknotes of 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, and 20,000 Tugrik.
It is advisable to carry Euros and USD and exchange them gradually. Exchange can be made at banks and hotels in Ulaan Bator.

Climate

The climate is extreme and harsh.
Winters cover the Gobi Desert with snow until April and keep lakes frozen until May.
The rainy season is brief, from mid-July to September, with light and short showers.
Nights are cool even in summer.

Approximate temperatures in Mongolia:

  • Spring (May): 14ºC day / 6ºC night, occasional rain, cold.
  • Summer (June–August): 28–30ºC day / 18ºC night, dry weather with occasional rain.
  • Autumn (September): 21–16ºC day / 0ºC night, dry and cold.

Recommended luggage

The lighter the luggage, the better.
It is recommended to bring:

  • Backpack without frame, duffel bag, or travel bag.
  • Small daypack (camera, sunscreen, binoculars, canteen, flashlight).
  • Raincoat or poncho.
  • Good anorak and warm clothing for high-altitude areas.
  • Light cotton clothing.

Photography

Mongolia is one of the most photogenic countries in the world due to its landscapes, wildlife, culture, and people.
Entrance to museums, National Parks, and Monasteries is included according to the program, but photography is not.
In many temples and monasteries, photos are not allowed unless a fee is paid in advance.
It is important to pay attention to notices (in Cyrillic or Mongolian), as once the photo is taken, payment is required immediately.

Food

The diet is based on meat, especially lamb, along with flour.
Horse meat is also consumed.
Dairy products such as milk, yogurt, and cheeses from cow, goat, or yak are common, although they have a strong flavor.

Milk may not be pasteurized, so it is recommended to boil it and preferably consume cooked foods.
In Gers (traditional dwellings), it is common to be offered “airag” (fermented mare’s milk) and local cheeses. Refusing it may be considered impolite.

Shopping

Bargaining is not common and it is rare to pay less than 70% of the initial price.
You can find:

  • Handicrafts, postcards, and clothing.
  • Carpets.
  • Leather and fur items.
  • Cashmere wool and camel hair products.
  • Wooden toys, puzzles, and games.
  • Oil paintings and watercolors.

In Ulaan Bator there are shops and shopping centers with European products, generally expensive, such as the State Department Store and other modern centers.

Safety and precautions

Mongolia is a safe country for tourism, with low levels of violent crime. However, it is necessary to be aware of pickpockets.

Recommendations:

  • Book in advance during high season (July and August).
  • Upon arrival at the hotel, store passport, visas, money, and valuables in the safe.

Full Board Plan

Breakfast. 09:00 AM-Meeting with the Samar Magic Tours team and the vehicle. Departure to “Yolin´´ Canyon or the Vulture Valley (33 km/21 miles, 2:00 hours) in the Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park. We will explore the “Yolin” Canyon or Vulture Gorge on foot (round-trip hikes), navigating a small stream located in Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park—established in 1993 with about 27,000 km², it is the largest in Mongolia. Yolyn Am (Mongolian: Ёлын Ам, Lammergeier Valley) is a deep and narrow gorge in the Gurvan Saikhan Mountains of southern Mongolia. The valley is named after the Lammergeier, which is called Yol in Mongolian. The Lammergeier is an Old World vulture, so the name is often translated as Valley of the Vultures or Valley of the Eagles. The valley is located within Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park. Yolyn Am is located in the Zuun Saikhanii Nuruu (Eastern Beauty) subrange of the Gurvan Saikhan Mountains. The area, as part of the Gobi Desert, sees little precipitation. However, Yolyn Am is notable for a deep ice field. The ice field reaches several meters thick by the end of winter and is several kilometers long. In previous years it remained all year round, but the modern ice field tends to disappear in September. There is a small museum displaying dinosaur eggs, some bones, stuffed birds, and leopards. Here you will have the chance to hike in the Gobi valley with impressive landscapes. Once in “Yolin” Canyon, we will walk through the valley, which narrows until it becomes a gorge at the bottom of which runs a torrent, frozen most of the year until early July, and which constitutes one of the most spectacular spots in the Gobi. If we are lucky, we can observe the lammergeier, other birds, and small rodents. In this place, you can rent horses with local guides to cross the canyon (*extra payment on-site, directly to the locals). Return for lunch (33 km/21 miles, 2:00 hours). Free time at your leisure. The sand dunes known as “Khongor” are giant sand dunes in Mongolia, also known as “singing dunes” due to the sound the wind produces as it passes through them. When the wind blows or the sand slides, they produce a vibrant and spectacular sound, like a song or a roar, although rain can compact the sand and silence it temporarily. They stretch for kilometers, reaching heights of up to 300 meters in some areas, creating an impressive desert landscape. The giant dunes of “Khongor” in Mongolia’s Gobi Desert are the most important sand dunes in Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park. Their area is over 900 square kilometers/559.23 square miles. We will visit a nomadic family with Bactrian camel breeders. A one-hour excursion riding a Bactrian camel.
